Introduction to Infant Sensory Development:Practical strategies to support early development through connection and play, hosted by Brittney Weinerth MS, OTR/L
Brittney Weinerth is a pediatric occupational therapist and the founder of Children’s Therapy Center, with locations in San Jose and Carmel. She became an occupational therapist in 2011 and has been dedicated to supporting children and families through a neurodevelopmental, relationship-based approach that honors each child’s unique sensory and developmental profile. Since opening her practice in 2014, Brittney has specialized in sensory processing, regulation, and early childhood development, with a strong emphasis on helping caregivers understand the “why” behind their child’s behavior. While her clinical work primarily focuses on older children, becoming a parent has sparked a deep personal interest in infant development and how to best support babies as they learn, grow, and navigate early challenges.
This presentation introduces sensory development in infancy and how it supports early movement, regulation, and connection. We will explore each sensory system, what typical development can look like in the first year, and how to recognize when something may need extra support. Caregivers will also learn simple, practical ways to support their baby’s development through everyday interactions and play. The goal is to build confidence in understanding your baby and responding to their cues in meaningful ways.
The Birth Network of Monterey County presents a free community parenting series called Parenting 101, or P101, on the 2nd Tuesday of every month from 6-7:00pm.
