I have always loved babies; I sometimes say birth, postpartum, and newborn care are my native languages! As the oldest of six, caring for babies came to me naturally from a very young age. After raising three children of my own to adulthood and years working as a nanny and then as a newborn care specialist, I realized that providing evidence-based support for parents is the most effective way to ensure babies are off to a great start. By combining my birth and postpartum doula support with my expertise in newborn parenting, lactation, and relationship foundations, I offer a unique mentoring and educational approach to supporting new families. I'm there for you & your family through your pregnancy and birth…and what comes after!

I Love Helping People.

Becoming a doula feels like my personal calling. It is a work of the heart. Since I was a small child, I repeatedly watched the BBC series, “Call The Midwives” with fascination over the miracle of birth with all its twists and turns, love and pain, culminating in the little bundle of baby crying, “Hello world!” I realize becoming a doula requires in-depth training, sensitivity and patience. You’re serving mothers with physical, emotional, and educational support.  Essentially, you are a childbirth companion to the family concerned.  That requires a calm person who can multitask and exude confidence in the process.

At my own birth I was separated from my biological mother and placed into foster care in Sacramento. Fortunately, I was adopted into a loving family. Perhaps my drive to be a doula has been charged by my passion to make the passage to life for the mother and child as lovely and healing as possible. I learned about the Sierra Childbirth Institute from one of your graduates, Michelle Nizza, who has a midwifery clinic in Monterey called “Mums the Word.” She is waiting for me to get the training I need so I can assist her in her work, attending live births, and participating in what goes on from start to finish with pregnancy and birth. I truly want to be a doula.

My passion is supporting families, meeting them where they are, identifying their needs, and guiding them toward where they want to be. My birthwork journey began after my first child was born in 2003 with the invaluable support of a doula. A spark was lit, and soon after my second birth, I completed my doula training. Now, as a mother of four, I continue to offer nurturing support through postpartum care (especially overnights), lactation guidance, tuck-in services, and parent coaching. I believe in shared experiences, laughter, and holding space without judgment. Parenting is beautiful, but also deeply challenging, and you don’t have to navigate it alone. I co-founded Mid Drift Movement, a nonprofit changing the conversation around postpartum bodies and expectations through workshops and a documentary series.

I joyfully support all families: LGBTQIA, adoptive, surrogate, multiples, and choice parents. Wherever you are on your journey, I’m here to walk beside you.

My name is Carly Riley, and my journey into postpartum care began after the births of my two daughters. Experiencing the gaps in support firsthand, I felt a deep calling to help other mothers and families during this tender, transformative time. I pursued training and became a certified Postpartum Doula, grounding my work in universal postpartum principles: nourishment, warmth, support, loving touch, and rest.

I believe it truly takes a village. When a mother is properly supported in those first weeks, she emerges vibrant, clear-minded, and deeply bonded with her baby and family. My goal is to create a nurturing space where mothers feel empowered, seen, and supported as they transition into parenthood.

Postpartum care is not a luxury, it’s a necessity for thriving families and future generations.

I look forward to walking beside you in this sacred chapter.

I speak English and use she/her pronouns.

My passion for birth work and mental health is rooted in a deep calling to serve, uplift, and empower families. Being a doula is not just what I do, it’s who I am. I believe every mother deserves to feel supported, heard, and respected throughout her journey, and I’m honored to be that steady, compassionate presence.

Rooted in a tradition that celebrates motherhood, I understand the beauty of this sacred transition, as well as the loneliness it can bring in today’s fast-paced world. My goal is to bring light, joy, and deep support to each family I work with.

With a background as a direct care counselor and certified doula, my approach blends emotional insight with practical guidance. I support families holistically, mind, body, and heart, during this profound time of change. My mission is to ensure every mother feels seen, held, and never alone.

Hello, I am an Indigenous mother of two daughters and a birth and postpartum doula serving Monterey & Santa Cruz families. I started my journey with birth work after I gave birth to my first daughter. My experience with my Doula was incredibly sacred, and I believe all birthing people deserve this. I aim to reciprocate this energy I had with my pregnancy & healing. I understand the complexities & trauma that come along with BIPOC parents and their journey to bring in a new life into this world. I want to be a voice & advocate in whichever my clients wishes are.
