Thank you to everyone who participated in the Natural Birth Talk last week. It was well attended and we have decided to offer it instead of the Meet the Midwives. We will host quarterly panels with midwives as well as other professionals knowledgeable in physiologic birth. If you are interested in participating, either on a panel or the welcome table, check out our Volunteer Form. If you would like to attend in December, RSVP here.

The BNoMC Board met on Sunday, and decided to add two people to our board. These would be general board positions for now. You do not need to be a birth professional, just a person supporting our cause. If you would like to volunteer, you can do that here, and membership can vote at the next Member Networking Meeting.

We would like to hear from membership when the most of you could attend our fall Member Networking Meeting. We had planned to meet in November, but with adding members to our Board and preparing for Optimize Your Birth, meeting in the beginning of October would be best. We want to choose a time and day convenient for the most members. Please select all of your available times in this poll, and we hope you will participate!

The next Meet the Doula is Friday, September 23rd at Babies”R”Us (1930 N Davis Rd) in Salinas, 6:00-8:00PM. Because Optimize will be on October 23rd, we will not have an October Meet the Doula. Please encourage your clients to attend. Doulas, please register by this Friday, September 16th. I’m looking forward to this event after our summer break!

We have decided to offer another new event, the Doula and Nurse Potluck. Our first one will be at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula on Friday, October 21st at 4:30PM. The purpose, apart from networking and getting to know each other, is an exchange of knowledge and skills. For example, doulas might share some rebozo techniques, or position work for a specific labor variation. Nurses can share what is most helpful to them, or concerns. We are all very excited about this opprotunity to share ideas and expertise. Birth Network birth doulas who are currently taking births that wish to participate can fill out this application. Six doulas will be able to participate at each potluck. One of our two big events of the year is coming up, Optimize Your Birth Panel and Birth Fair, on October 23rd at the Marina Library. Optimize Your Birth features a professional panel to answer parents’ questions. This year’s professionals include OB/GYN Jennifer Zeidberg, Midwife Jillian Lynch, Doula & Birth Educator Sarah McCabe, Chiropractor & Doula Caitlin Clarke, Prenatal Yoga Instructor Laura McKinnon. A Birth Fair will immediately follow.
