The Monterey Public Library is a center for exploration and learning for all ages, through books and beyond. Our Children’s Librarians are experts in Early Childhood Development and enjoy supporting parents as they talk, read, write, sing, and play with their children. We offer weekly Baby Rhyme Time storytimes, followed by stay-and-play social time for babies and caregivers. Check our website to see our calendar of events for parents and children.

PCMC is guided by a set of core values. Parent education is delivered respectfully, is research-based, holistically honors the parent and child, and is appropriate for each age and stage.

Highly qualified parent educators share and model relevant, research-based curriculum in each class, responding to the specific needs of the families in attendance, focusing on building positive relationships and growing healthy, confident children. PAL classes are designed to increase parental resilience, build social connections, share knowledge of parenting and child development, provide concrete support in times of need, and support the development of social and emotional competence in children. Parents who attend PAL classes report feeling more informed, supported, and capable in their role.

PCMC PAL classes are currently the only playgroups on the Monterey Peninsula that are offered at times when working families can attend. Saturday classes allow parents who work full-time during the week to access critical social connections and parenting support, while enjoying time with their young children.
