We are mothers and those who care for us, advocating for evidence-based care & humanity in childbirth.  This movement isn’t about natural birth vs. medicated birth.  It’s not about hospital birth vs. homebirth or birth center birth.  It’s about women being capable of making safer, more informed decisions about their care and that of their babies, when they are fiven full & accurate information about their care options, including the potential harms, benefits, adn alternatives.
It’s about respect for women and their decisions in childbirth, including how, where, and with whom they give birth; and the right to be treated with dignity & compassion.
All of this is within a system where 9 out of 10 women receive care that is not based on best evidence, and 1 in 3 births occurs by surgery — an all-time high rate that doesn’t correspond with better health outcomes.

PCMC is guided by a set of core values. Parent education is delivered respectfully, is research-based, holistically honors the parent and child, and is appropriate for each age and stage.

Highly qualified parent educators share and model relevant, research-based curriculum in each class, responding to the specific needs of the families in attendance, focusing on building positive relationships and growing healthy, confident children. PAL classes are designed to increase parental resilience, build social connections, share knowledge of parenting and child development, provide concrete support in times of need, and support the development of social and emotional competence in children. Parents who attend PAL classes report feeling more informed, supported, and capable in their role.

PCMC PAL classes are currently the only playgroups on the Monterey Peninsula that are offered at times when working families can attend. Saturday classes allow parents who work full-time during the week to access critical social connections and parenting support, while enjoying time with their young children.

Infant massage is a tool we can use to connect deeply with our baby. It allows us the opportunity to listen to them not just with our ears but with our whole being. It helps us practice being present, meeting their needs, teaching them self-regulation, and playing with and enjoying one another. Current research is showing us that infant massage has lasting positive impacts on our baby’s developing brain and body.
